High Mountain
Mount Lyall in Gaspésie, renowned for the presence of agates, also contains illite, a clay rarely used in ceramics and unavailable on the Canadian market. Illite forms under specific geological conditions, usually in the presence of hydrothermal solutions, making it a valuable witness to the ancient volcanic processes of the region.
This mineral, often used in cosmetics and certain industries for its absorbent and purifying properties, is another geological treasure that visitors can explore on the site.
— In 2022, I got in touch with the owners of Mount Lyall, and they kindly provided me with details about the mountain’s geology and shared with me samples of local clay. From now on, I dream to pursue a large-scale production with this local clay that is distinct with its shades of butter and minuscule iron dots.
